Our Life is in Our Hands….

Choice to react or respond

Life is not what happens to us, but what we make of it.

  • It is unfair when we are left alone.
  • It is humiliating when we are insulted.
  • It is unfortunate when we face criticism.
  • It is painful when we fail.
  • It is wrong when someone shouts at us.
  • It is heart-breaking when someone rejects us.
  • It is unwarranted when someone blames us.
  • It is humiliating when someone insults us.
  • It is terrible when someone disrespects us.

But then nothing is really lost ……note, what happens is not important but how we React or Respond determines how life treats us.

When we are emotional, we jump to conclusions and React mindlessly and impulsively. We give up the control button to others and what follows is a self-fulfilling prophecy that causes us grief and regret.

Remember….

  • When we retaliate, we only allow our own wounds to fester and grow.
  • When we cry, we only indulge in self-pity and make ourselves unhappy and sad.
  • When we withdraw, we lose our will to fight back and dig our own grave.
  • When we surrender in defeat, we don’t even try, and prove everyone right.

When we pause to think and choose our Response appropriate to the circumstances we face, we retain our freedom and the command-and-control button of our life. Options, choices and boundary lines of our life are for us to decide.

Remember……

  • When we introspect, we learn lessons from the situation, we find ourselves in and begin again.
  • When we are at peace and calm within ourselves, we resurrect ourselves again to to celebrate and win.
  • When we forgive others, we plough back seeds of peace, love and happiness in our lives to grow and flourish.
  • When we are aware of our fault lines, we are able overcome our failures which are there only to teach us to succeed again.

The battle and conflict are not what others do to us but within ourselves. What happens to us is not our fate, or an accident or how others treat us or for that matter the shoes we wear but the steps we take and how far we walk to reach our destination.
