India women’s hockey team has scripted history as it stormed into the semi-final defeating all-time favourite Australia!
Meet Rani Rampal, the skipper, who crafted this stunning victory. Rani hails from the Shahbad-Markanda in the backwaters of Kurukshetra in Haryana.
Desperate and determined to defeat the vicious cycle of poverty she faced, Rani was fascinated with Hockey and spent hours watching the game in the neighbourhood academy. She started to practise with a broken hockey stick until she convinced the academy coach to take her under his wings. Undeterred by the initial resistance from her parents, she continued her training relentlessly. Her coach stepped in to support her dietary requirements and hockey kit which her family could ill afford.
Rani never looked back and continued to march ahead winning several local, state tournaments until she reached the national and international arena as the youngest debutante in World Cup in 2010.Thereafter she has won many accolades and awards that recognised her as a hockey superstar. Rani is not yet done…. determined as she now sets her eyes for Gold @OlympicsTokyo 2021.
Hard work, courage and determination has helped Rani to conquer the insurmountable hurdles that have come her way. Never give up!
Indeed, she is an inspiration for all of us. Kudos!!
Well done Rani & team India and all the best! You have made us proud! Keep going!
