Our Independence Day celebration passed by under the shadows of COVID19.It is indeed a historic day and we have every reason to rejoice and celebrate seventy-four years of our freedom. However, 2020 has been a life changing wake up call for all of us. When we sit back and reflect, indeed the complexion and context of Freedom has dramatically changed.
What does Freedom mean to us in COVID times?
• Freedom cannot be taken for granted and is to be cherished and protected, if we are to continue in our journey called life.
• Freedom empowers us and give us the license to do what is right, but not as we please for our selfish needs and desires.
• Freedom means the right to live and breathe freely on this beautiful planet, and not destroy it or rule it.
• Freedom means we must work collectively to safeguard and succour the wellbeing of not only ourselves, but all mankind and all other living beings on this planet we live in if we are to survive and thrive.
• Freedom means responsibility to peacefully coexist, live in harmony and peace with others and not to ruin and obstruct the lives of others.
• Freedom means that we cannot afford to live our lives freely and recklessly without care and concern for others as we all are interdependent and interconnected with a shared common destiny.
• Freedom means to live differently, live safely with discipline, and control if we are to be free from restriction of the new norms of our lives that cage us.
• Freedom means when we awaken every morning free from worries and fears, we have learnt to live with the “flow”, to take life as it comes in the hope of a better tomorrow.
• Freedom is freedom from within, to be patienceand resilient no matter what life throws at us. Tough times do not last, tough people do, and that is true freedom.
We are all in it together and that this too shall pass. Tomorrow is another day and we will collectively win our Freedom from this virulent enemy that besieges us today. We will wake up tomorrow to imbibe a new meaning of Freedom.
