It Took a Virus To Show Us The Reality of Life

We had our Monday blues and dreaded a start of another gruelling week, but now every morning, every day we have the “blues” as every week and month are as gruelling as ever before.

The reality dawns upon us
The reality dawns upon us

We hated our tedious travel to office, the endless meetings, and the rule book that chained us, but now we miss the travails of our travel, the humdrum of office and even the rule book looks cool.
We resented when we carried our work to our homes, but now our work is from home and there are no lines drawn.
We cribbed about our “me time”, “family time”, but now “me time” “family time” and “work time” are all one and the same.
We looked forward to a salary hike and our promotion as our reward, but now we just pray to get our salary in time.
We threatened to quit our jobs if we did not get our dues, but now all we want is to retain our jobs to pay our dues.
We planned a long vacation this summer to get away from the maddening rat race, but now seasons have changed, and we remain confined in our home away from the rat race.
We waited all week long for TGIF (“Thank God It’s Friday”), our very own time for fun and of course a lazy weekend ahead, but now fun and frolic are a distant dream and all we wait for is for this nightmare to end.
We claimed to be too busy to meet our families and loved ones, but now we yearn to meet them, but in vain as “distancing” and not “time” keeps us apart.
We made mindless splurges, and our avarice and greed, remained unsatiated, but now we live a frugal life that revolves around our grocery lists, safety kit comprising of sanitisers, and masks and household chores.
We were unhappy about our past, restless about our present and toiled endlessly for a brighter and prosperous future, but now all we worry about is our present, an uncertain future and long for the good and happy times gone by.
An invisible virus has twisted our tale forever and pinned us down, but the good news is we are alive, healthy, safe, and secure in the now.
We have learnt to take life as it comes, “que sera sera …. whatever will be will be”.
We have realised that we should count our blessings.
When there is life, there is hope and surely, we shall overcome.

Take care, be happy, be safe!
